<h2>Flyre - Python + Flask meets Fyre Fest?</h2>Note: The live site has since died when Heroku removed it's free tier 🪦 - Flyre lives on in our dreams 👻<h3>Why this?</h3>Project #2 at General Assembly. Another switcheroo from my teacher (@katharosada on GitConnect), our class did a major unit on python and flask instead of ruby on rails - and another stroke of genius imo. Python has come in handy a lot more since then I think ruby would have, especially after chatGPT dropped and python was an easy way to spin up ideas for a while. 🐍4lyf🫶<h3>Takeaways:</h3><ul><li>Funny how every one of my projects from Flyre onward was a '2 sided marketplace' without me really realising. The power for technology to connect people around common interests and common problems is compelling I suppose!</li><li>Python libraries, and by extension flask, are awesome - I don't get much time to play with them these days but reading Python still feels pretty like a comfortable place</li><li>The soundcloud API basically doesn't work and I don't recommend trying to use it - many hacky solutions were used to do simple actions. I'm pretty sure they basically discontinued it so I was essentially automating a soundcloud iframe when you added a song from soundcloud 🧠</li><li>Also the first time I learnt what iframes are - more ✨Code Magic✨</li></ul><h3>Project Info:</h3>Flyre is a platform that connects artists and event organisers. A learning experience in building full-stack applications outside the Javascript/React ecosystem - using Python, Flask, Jinja and the Soundcloud API.<h2></h2><h2>Process:</h2>I took out my designer, developer and product manager hats for this one 👒.Ideation - Started with multiple ideas and decided to go with a friends suggestion, based on the 'fyre' app that the 'fyre' festival was promoting - an app to connect DJs with organisersResearch - I spoke with some friends who are local artists and event organisers, and sent out a <a href="https://forms.gle/Ff2J9qaimaYMkKpv7" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">survey to relevant user types</a>Scope - Used MOSCOW to decide on priority features to have a solid working MVPCode - Spent most of my time getting the infrastructure working (API returns, flask sending correct info to templates etc) before moving on to designDesign - Researched similar sites (especially Soundcloud, where artists would be familiar) - drew up designs in FigmaImplementing designs - Decided to learn and apply bootstrap after running into limitations with what I wanted to achieve with a consistent look and feel in CSS.
